Jim Thomasson is a native of Newnan, Georgia, and spent his early years as a Boy Scout in Troops 41 and 57, earning the rank of Eagle Scout. He was inducted into the Order of the Arrow (OA) and was bestowed with The Vigil Honor. In 1977, he attended the Boy Scouts of America’s National Jamboree in Pennsylvania and the 1979 World Jamboree in Sweden., which provided an eye-opening view of the wide-reach and positive impact of Scouting.
After graduating from The Heritage School in 1980, Mr. Thomasson earned a B. A. from Emory University, and afterward worked as a BSA District Executive for the Atlanta Area Council until 1988. He began a career in property and casualty insurance, and as a result of the knowledge gained, started a company that developed a computer software program called CompPower, that was later sold to the National Council on Compensation Insurance. In 1996, Mr. Thomasson founded MyrtleTech, an IT networking company that was sold to All Covered, a division of Konica Minolta, in 2011. He then focused his business interests on commercial real estate, founding 75 Jackson LLC, a commercial real estate investment and management firm.
In addition to leading 75 Jackson, Mr. Thomasson invests his time promoting personal and community wellness, increasing opportunities for physical fitness in Newnan and Coweta County. Taking cues from his experience with Scouting in his formative years, Mr. Thomasson has come to see that growing a healthy and active community is a natural way to attract new businesses and residents to the area. He currently serves on the Newnan City Council representing District 3, Chair of Strategy Committee, Board of Trustees for The Heritage School, a member of the Newnan Downtown Development Authority, and serves as a founding member of the Board of Directors for the Friends of LINC, which helped establish the City of Newnan’s multi-use trail system. He and his wife of 33 years, Jennifer, are active members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Newnan.
